Determined by how illustrations are placed relative to the words. Are dominate element(s) consistent with the text?. O Centre: where is the focal point of the illustration? O Colour: does one colour dominate the illustration? O Size: what are the largest elements in the illustration? What elements dominate the illustration?. Does the illustration have tactile feel to it?. What visual effects does the illustrator achieve with his/her use of those elements?. How does the illustrator manipulate line, colour and shape?.

Compare the illustrator’s use of organic (found in nature) shapes. Does the illustrator’s use of shape suit the mood and intent of the pictures?. How has the illustrator used shape in the pictures?.
